We are fully committed to achieving a sustainable future and recognise the role that our industry plays in this. To ensure business-wide adherence to our environmental principles, we have put various steps, procedures and initiatives in place. This is how we’re championing sustainability at Gloster MEP:
- We have an environmental management system and are ISO 14001 accredited
- All products and systems use the latest designs, minimising environmental impact
- All suppliers are Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) accredited
- On site, we complete audits for environmental risks and have a dust and noise prevention strategy
- We are proactively upgrading our fleet to all electric vehicles
- We implement sustainable design, using building information modeling (BIM) to minimise waste and improve green credentials
- Many of our projects are rated “Excellent” by the Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
- Long term, we have a strategy to become carbon neutral
- We utilise and maintain an environmental aspects and impacts register
- We replant 250 trees per quarter
- We are aiming to offset all our carbon emissions by 2023
We reduce environmental impact in our everyday operations, including:
- Emissions monitoring and reduction wherever possible
- Using PIR lights and energy-efficient products
- Reusing and recycling where possible on all refurbishment contracts
- Minimising waste in the office and on site
- Operating a fully electric fleet of aftercare and maintenance vehicles
Our sustainable procurement policy statement
We are committed to sustainable procurement – here are our policy aims and objectives:
- Procure from ethical and legal sources
- Use local suppliers and sub-contractors where possible to minimise environmental impact associated with transportation while supporting the local economy
- Ensure all our suppliers are Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) accredited
- Include sustainability criteria when appointing the services of sub-contractors
- Request details from sub-contractors regarding environmental policies, management systems and environmental breaches; assess this information as part of company approval processes
- Work with clients and designers for the specification of materials with recycled content, or materials that can be easily recycled at the end of their useful life
- Stimulate and support innovation that provides more sustainable solutions
- Encourage the reuse of materials as a first priority in preference of purchasing new materials
- Require that all members of the supply chain comply with relevant legal requirements according to industry guidelines and standards, and be able to demonstrate this
- Purchase timber that has been certified as originating from a responsibly managed forest by an organisation such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
- Avoid the use of materials and substances with hazardous properties, and avoid processes that could cause damage to the environment and people’s health
- Collaborate on sustainable procurement opportunities throughout the supply chain and through membership of trade associations, sharing best practices
- Promote awareness of this policy amongst employees and the supply chain
